I am not a history buff by any stretch of the imagination. I just recall reading in the Kama Sutra that women were instructed in the arts of keeping a lover, so women must have done this as well as men. I think women would rather see their husbands go to a woman who can not become a second wife, than to have her husband leave her or marry a second wife....just guessing here. It is well known that men have a more difficult time than women staying faithful to one partner. We look upon the idea of it as abhorrent because we were raised in a culture where marriage is a singular bond. If you have lived in a culture where you never knew of such a thing, then polyamoury and the use of sex workers would seem normal. Erika
