Furthermore, this cunningness is written of and by a man, who obviously could recognize an Indian woman's unique ways of gaining personal power. I also have not seen any evidence supporting the concept that the temple women were expected to arrive and remain as virgins. Chastity is not emphasized within many aspects of the Hindu religion to the extent that so many other religions chose to emphasize it. (For men, I have heard of schools of thought that teach the withholding of "seed", or ejaculation, will lead to a more potent state of spirituality though).
