Do you book your own appointments and have them meet you at the : location, or does the location book appointments for you? ---I do most of my work on a walk-in basis, and anything else is booked through me. I rarely book appointments though, and if I do, it is usually for someone who wants a large amount of work. Walk-ins have been sufficient so that i do not need to book appointments. : 2. Do you work at the shop on an hourly basis (say 9-5) and wait for : people to come in and hope they decide to splurge for henna? ---Yep. I usually get to work around 12:30, and leave at 7:00-ish. Also, I work fridays and saturdays, and if i feel like it, the odd day or 2 during the week. Saturdays have been the best days I have noticed. : 3. What percentage of your sale do you give to the location? ---30%, meaning I keep 70%. The usual split for tattoo artists is 50/50, but my boss said that since I don't make nearly as much money as they do, that the 70/30 split would be fine. : 4. What type display do you have set up in the salon for advertising : your henna services ---A big sign, which my boss had made, reading "Henna tattoos now available!!!" I didn't choose the wording, but it seems to work ok. Also, while I am at the shop, i have a table covered in my design books, with a pretty tye dyed tablecloth. : 5. This one's kind of personal, so you don't have to answer with : exact amounts, but what kind of money do you average ($0-$50, or $50- : $100, etc...)? ---I qualify a "good day" as breaking $100. This happens most days in summer, in fact I have had days where I broke $200- That only happens about once a year though. Also, my prices are rather high. I'm not sure if you're familiar with Henna The Joyous Body Art's pattern book number one, but if you are, my average price in that book is $25-35 for spot designs. : I'm just trying to get some idea of what to expect! Good luck with this- if you find an ideal situation, go for it. I have had great good luck with the shop I work at, so hopefully you can find something that suits you. If you have any more questions, let me know. ~Nick
