Karin and I were playing email tag yesterday and I am pretty sure I
mentioned to her that I am very picky about how I represent this
cultural artform.
While I do a fair bit of 'art' pieces or fantasy pieces...those are
usually for fun and I am working on someone I know. When I am out
at events the books on my table with the exception of 1 are all full
of traditional/cultural designs.
I am just picky but I feel to honor the traditions of mehendi is to
keep it traditional for the most part. I don't want to be seen by
mehendi cultures as 'some white chick abusing our heritage'. I find
it insulting to all.
I really have a problem if I am expected to spatula paste over
plastic pieces and still call it mehendi.
