Re: Buzzing again? I just can't really sit and keep quiet after this post. And it isn't really about the issue at hand, everyone else has said everything I would say about anti- commercialism. No, I'm responding to Daniel. I tried to read this thread in chronological order (no the easiest thing), and I have to admit, at first I took his side, thinking, "All right, at least his heart's in the right place." Then I saw this post. And it really ruined my night. You know, I never really appreciated Henna fully until I came across this site. I never really knew its origins and history, or the complexities of traditional Moroccan (among many other) designs. And it even took me a really long time to fully appreciate how much work Catherine puts into her doctorate and this site and its affiliates. So, Daniel, unless you've done as much research as she has, compiled it all, and made it into several fully documented papers, as well as a highly informative and accessible website, I think you should really consider getting off your high horse when you talk. Maybe the reason everyone seems to 'buzz' you is that you seem to be really arrogant and stubborn in your mindset. And yes, if you go to museums and reinterpret designs, and make them available to the general public, they are copyrighted. Do you think Arthur Laurents didn't copyright 'West Side Story', just because it was a reinterpretation of Romeo and Juliet? And one other thing. Freedom of speech is a basic American right, it's true, but often it means freedom to sound like an idiot. You might want to think about that. And respect isn't an obligation, it's just that. A sign of respect. It's all very well and good to voice your opinions civilly, but, yeah, people usually seem to object to being told they're 'WRONG' on a point of personal morality. Okay, I'm done now. Muse
