I agree with you about the most hateful designs. I also try to steerpeople to a "cooler" (in my opinion) version of a dragon either CCJ's
or Lezard's. I give them choices so they don't feel cheated.
When it comes to kanji I explain that I don't do them because I don't
know what they mean and I would be afraid of someone walking around
thinking it means "peace" but actually it means "toilet". If I can
get them to laugh they usually forget about kanji and go back to
looking for a cool design in my books.
