I'm sureyou never promised you could do 250 kids in 2 hours. You have fulfilled your obligation. DO NOT let this woman push you around , she will ring you dry. It's awesome that she wants to book a private appointment with you, call her and tell her that, tell her you think it's great they want to have you over and these are the rates. Tell her how affordable it is if each child can pitch in a few bucks. Do not bring up that you were presured into saying you'd drive cross country to work for free for her. Either she can book you or not but please don't drag yourself around because she's a bully. (from a henna girl who let it happen 1 too many times and now just acts pleasantly sympathetic to these pushy broads and sticks to her hourly rate. Too many gigs where I was paid pennies and they dripped in pearls.) Jessica : I did a Girl Scout event as a favor to a friend, who needed another : Henna artist. It was all on a volunteer basis, which was OK by me. We : were told there would be 40-50 girls and we wouldn't be the only : activity. There would also be hair braiding, massages, cappuccino, : dancing, palates and make-up advice. So we figured the two of us : could handle it. : After a 2 hour drive we arrived early to set-up. Setting up only : took 5 minutes or so, so we henna-ed each other and a few early : birds. Then the scouts began to come in in herds. the head count : totaled 250!!! We quickly turned into the main attraction. Our line : extended beyond our view and the insanity began. : Scout leaders hovered nearby shouting at us to hurry it up because : there were alot of girls and they ALL were told they would be able to : get henna. I tried my best to explain that we could not possibly get : all these girls henna-ed, but we would try our best. There were about : 3-4 scout leaders that were exceptionally pushy...pointing out to me : which designs I "should" be doing, the ones they thought were easiest : and quickest to do. They even took my books apart in attempt to weed : out the easy designs from the hard ones...that was a minor annoyance : compared to the one that hovered close to me and kept telling me to : hurry, no hand designs because they took too long...as if she was an : expert. When I stopped looking up at her (because I was trying to : hurry.) she must have thought that I couldn't hear her so she got : louder and bent her head very low so I could see her in my Field of : vision. This woman was so obnoxious I didn't know what to say to get : her the heck away from me so I could work in peace. So in an attempt : to avoid confrontation in front of children, I pleasantly told her if : all the girls didn't get henna-ed I would come to each troop meeting : and henna them there. (stupid stupid stupid!) I live 2-4 hours away : from most of these troops!!! What was I thinking by saying that! : To top this evening of chaos off as I was packing up my stuff, the : early bird girls approached us to tell us they got in trouble for : having such large and lovely designs on there hands and that they : were told it wasn't fair to the rest of the girls who were only : allowed to get small simple designs.....what insanity! : On my long drive home....through a typically nasty western New york : snow storm on dark country roads, I prayed that those leaders would : lose my business cards..................but of course they didn't. : I received a call from the obnoxious woman wanting me to come to her : troop, like I had(stupidly) promised I would....now I have to call : her back and tell her if i can or can't do it...I'm dragging my feet : on this. : Comments, critisisms, advice are all welcome. : Artfully Screwed, : Kimm Moon
