henna in India?

One of my co-workers told me that henna is not widely used among
Indian Hindus...that it is a mainly Muslim thing. (His Mom is from
Calcutta)

That's not what I understood from all the postings from The Folklore
of the Colorful Myrtle (or something close to that) put out by CCJ.
