I heard the same schtick from them. I tried the black, but while I
had no hideous reaction, I did end up with a hideous grey smudge as a
"design." Definitely not for skin, nope, no way.
I'm not so sure I believe that claim. The black powder looks and
smells a little different than regular henna, and like I said, it
does not stain the skin (I think others here have had that
experience).

As for organic, I doubt that much (if any) organically-grown henna
exists. It takes a long time to get the shrubs to a harvestable
height (the "fame" of organic farming is recent), and it is
cultivated in India and the Middle East, where regulations are very
different (and I doubt there are any large-scale organic movements
there, yet).
