: What would happen if you put hot wax (from a candle) on dried or
: drying henna? Would there be any kind of chemical reaction?

As far as a chemical reaction-I'd be sure to use either pure beeswax
or straight parrafin, just to be safe.

A male friend of mine from Egypt told me how his mother and sisters
used to do thier henna.

They had a metal syringe that they put melted parrafin in,
periodically heating the tube over a candle to keep it runny. Then
they would do the designs in the palms in wax, and pack the henna over
the top of this, much like those bandage resist techniques.

After the henna dried, they dipped thier hands into parrafin, then
wrapped warm wet towels around thier hands. He said that after a few
hours, the would roll off the henna & wax into little balls and burn
them in a brazier. Ritual significance?
