As far as a chemical reaction-I'd be sure to use either pure beeswax or straight parrafin, just to be safe. A male friend of mine from Egypt told me how his mother and sisters used to do thier henna. They had a metal syringe that they put melted parrafin in, periodically heating the tube over a candle to keep it runny. Then they would do the designs in the palms in wax, and pack the henna over the top of this, much like those bandage resist techniques. After the henna dried, they dipped thier hands into parrafin, then wrapped warm wet towels around thier hands. He said that after a few hours, the would roll off the henna & wax into little balls and burn them in a brazier. Ritual significance? Carrie
