Beeswax has a lower melting temp than parrafin so its less owie. Sounds like they were using a tjanting tool. Such is available at the link below...if you have a high pain tolerance. Also, you can melt the wax in a little potpourri simering pot... then paint it on with a sumi brush. Ritual significance? Sometimes people are a little more anxious to read meaning into things than is helpful...or not.....the wax would certainly goose up the fire nicely, and what else are you supposed to do with the gunk?
