Ah, *that's* why they usually do the mordants first. Though I have
seen dye recipes where the mordant-type chemical (usually the same
kind as the pre-treatment) is applied with the dye, and even one or
two where what they call a mordant (guess it isn't, by the above
definition) is applied after. I stand corrected -- thanks.
