With the drums, how do you keep the paste moist? Do you use lemon-
sugar? I tried a wooden box before... the stain bled a lot, and it
dried quickly. Any ideas?

: I've seen boxes like that in import shops and they're fabulous! I've
: also seen Moroccan leather lamps and drums that have been hennaed and
: the paste left on -- really wonderful.

: I have tried henna-ing drums with good success. Use fresh henna and
: sift the way you ordinarily would, then mix a simple paste -- no oils
: or sugars or any other extras. Henna, tea(or coffee or cloves or
: whatever) and lemon/lime juice. I apply it just like I would on a
: person, except drums are easier to maneuver and don't complain if the
: design turns out different than expected. Keep the drum in a warm
: place for a few days. Then, you can either leave the paste on to
: flake off with use, or you can flake the paste off yourself and apply
: heat (I've used an iron on low) to bring out the color.

: Haven't tried henna on wood recently. My last attempt wasn't so
: successful, but the wood had been previously oiled so that probably
: affected uptake of the henna.
