I don't measure anything. I spoon henna powder into a cup and then
alternate adding lemon juice and black tea with cloves until it reaches
a pudding consistency. When dropped from the spoon, the paste hangs a
second before plopping back into the cup. Then I let it sit overnight
-- sometimes the henna powder absorbs lots of liquid and i need to add
a few more drops of lemon juice in the morning. I suspect that overal
humidity may be a factor (like it is in bread-making)

I also do a test before loading up the cone. Glob a little on a
fingertip and hold it over the cup. That will give you a good idea of
how it will behave. And if you have a little stain after only a couple
minutes, you also know your henna's really fresh.
