I've heard several times of a wonderful brand of henna powder that is
sea green and tends to foam a bit when you mix it. Never had any of
it myself. I'd love to find some sometime. It is reasonable to assume
that there are many subspecies of Lawsonia Inermis, given it's
geographic distribution...( any place that doesn't get below 40F much)
...and this may be an example of such.
If very fresh henna is mixed with water (or tea brewed with such
water ) that is an acidic water (rainwater, or a local water that
hasn't been blasted by chlorine and other wonderful civilized things)
henna comes up just fine....given adequate heat and freshness.
