It depends on the metal in your bowl. Brass could be a lot of things
depending on the import store. The acid in your paste will react with
copper and such...and you'll have do decide for yourself if
potentially toxic metallic salts oxidized off the surface are a good
idea or not. You sure shouldn't eat them! (That's why there is a
white surface inside tomatoe cans.....tomatoes are acidic enough to
react with the metal in the can)
Some manufacturers of henna pastes include metallic oxides to darken
their henna, and dyers will simmer their skeins in brass pots with the
dyes to darken the colors, or will chuck in a handful of tin oxide or
copper oxide to darken the dye. So......depending on the bowl, the
oxides may darken your henna color. Whether or not it's safe is Moot.
