One 50 g. packet of henna is good for 2-6 hours of hennaeing. (A
regular gig.) A lot depends on whether you're fast or slow, doing
fine-line or tribal....I can get a dozen fillagree hands fully covered
easily with one packet. Little designs? At least several dozen,
depending.

How thick should your lines be? Thickness depends on where. On palms
you can go down to pin-size lines with Castle Art henna and still get
deep color. Heavier lines can go black on palms easily with enough
heat and some nice athletic callouses. On the backs of hands,
paperclip-wire size lines show up well. On arms and legs,
coathanger-wire size lines come up chocolaty with heat and wrap. The
more henna, the more tannins, as tannins come in little plant cell
packages, so the more plant cells piled up, the darker the color.
Heavy tribal, Celtic, Maori style patterns are great for backs, chests
and tummies that are otherwise tough to color. Pile the henna on
heavy where your skin is thin (backs, tummies, chests). Treat
yourself to teenyweeny lines where the skin is thick and porous (palms
and soles).
