I think I can understand how you are feeling. Sounds like you are ready to move on with harder desgins. Whenever I find news designs that I'd like to try in henna and I want to know if they are easy enough for me, I make sure to draw them first. Sometimes I'll just redraw the design, sometimes for really complicated ones (celtic knots etc.) I will trace (to get the proportions right). If I can draw it, I can usually henna it, and drawing it helps to unravel the design and teaches my hand the lines. If you are unsure, draw it a few times, draw it different ways. If you still have problems with a design but really want to do it with henna, try to simplify it, or use your mistakes to change the design. As for unravelling designs, getting to the root of a complicated design, decipering it, Catherine's advice is on point....start at the middle and work your way out. This is where drawing it on paper comes in handy to get to know the design. Loretta Roome's book has some ideas on deciphering patterns and designs and transposing them into henna. Good luck and enjoy the challenge.
