: Rachel and Leah also had henna before their weddings... What your bibliography on that one? It's certainly very likely... Oh...you'll find the henna references for Genesis era stuff in the Second Book of Adam and Eve. That's one of the Apocrypha. I haven't been able to figure out how much henna the Hebrews were doing. At one point they were sure that Satan had taught their neighbors to dye red and purple. They also were pretty uncomfortable with their hennaed neigbor ladies (the Canaanites) who had fertility rites every year (wherein some of the sons of the Hebrews went over to visit and commited "all manner of abomnations" party>)Later they seemed to have adapted a lot of the Canaanite traditions, though they never got along with them at all. One of the problems with finding henna in the Bible (for me, at least) is that the English translations are so far from the originals, and I can't read anything but English (and the originals were translated (and edited) by old Euro guys who wouldn't know a hennaed hand if it startled them under their cassock. ) What's your source for your spellings and origins on those deities? I've seen spelling all over the place for Asherah and Anath. Granted, it hardly matters. I get one nave registered into my spellchecker, and then 5 more dome along. Who's tying Eve to Asherah (Ashtoreth)? That wouldn't have been my first guess, though I can see their point....
