There was an article about Rachel, Leah and Jacob in this month's
issue of Reform Judaism. (I wasn't looking for henna
references; it just caught my eye)
As to the connection between the various names for Asherah: I first
noticed it in the book Snow Crash (which, albeit a fictional
story, is amazingly well-researched on mythology) and later in a Time
magazine article about feminism and female history, with a bit on
women as myths and deities (quite the womens' issue!) Fascinating
stuff on the Apocrypha... I really must find a Catholic Bible and
check this out!
