My mom told me that she & her mates used to smear tamarind juice
(that's basically mixing some tamarind fruit (dried & processed) with
hot water) onto their fingertips (or anywhere to be hennaed) before
they start hennaing to make the stain darker. I've mixed it with my
elixir before but there wasn't any significant difference so I
stopped.

BTW : Yes, tamarind is widely used in many of our Asian dishes. It's
supposed to add a sweet & sour taste ... YUMS !
