The dyestuff in henna is hennotannic acid, but I think the walnut
dyestuff is an iodide compound.

I don't think that on skin you could ever get really great results
with the walnut stain, because the molecules aren't penetrating and
binding all that well at body temperature. If you could boil yourself
with walnut galls (like you dye wool with them) you'd get a good take
because the molecules would expand and bind more easily.

There's a lot of potential for irritation and allergy with the walnut
stuff! Walnut gall may not be the best line of inquiry.
