Knock henna through a tea strainer, to see if there are big scraps of stuff left from the henna processing. Be careful not to breathe in any henna fluff. That's not good for you. If you're going for really tiny lines, sift the henna through 2 layers of pantyhose (especially the control top). Several ladies on the forum have found that some container from dairy queen with the top snapped to the bottom, (to keep the fluff from going everywhere) and the pantyhose in between makes a brilliant henna sifter... but I haven't done it myself so I can't tell you exactly how they did it, and they're probably busy with the holidays. If they check in on the forum, I'm sure they'll help you. Jed Hansen also makes a great henna sifter for sale ... don't know if he has a url. Perhaps he'll check in, too, and let you know how to get his....
