The person you spoke to at the MAD Scientist network obviously has no
idea of the chemistry of henna. This person did a web search on your
behalf, and came up with a lot of links related to black henna, which
of course is a dangerous substance. You can search far and wide, but
you will not find as much information anywhere else on the Internet
than you will find here. I am a person with a strong background in
science and I can assure you that the information that CCJ will
eventually deliver your way is legitimate. She has taken the time to
learn university-level organic chemistry in order to write her
four-part harmony discourse. She is NOT a confused scientist, having
consulted the right sources.

She is going to tell you that the active substance in henna is not a
stain, but a tannic acid that reacts with the proteins in the upper
layer of the skin. I suggest you believe her.
