This has something ... but its hard to say exactly what ... to do with the way henna binds with collagens in the skin. When hennotannic acid binds onto a skin or hair cell, moisture (also) holds more easily to that cell. Women living in arid regions value henna in that it brings moisture into their hair....making it silkier. Henna on feet keeps feet from cracking in really arid conditions. I suspect it has something to do with the little oxygens or the hydrogen stuck onto the second carbon ring of hennotannic acid grabbing and hanging onto extra water molecules and thus relatively rehydrating that part of the skin .... but that's out of my area of expertise, so I wouldn't want to venture further in my guestimate.
