though i know there are a lot of people on this list that use
stockings either before or after for clog prevention but i have tried
it and it doesn't work for me. i feel that the reason it doesn't word
for me is that the nature of the stocking is to stretch and it lets
too thick of pieces in.
this is how i do it and it works for me.
i do sift before mixing even though it might say it already has been
sifted. a friend that you all know on this list as miss monica showed
me this methoed and it seems to work. take a finely woven fabric like
a scarf type and fold it a few times, cover a tupperware type
container, put a bit of powdered henna with 2 or 3 marbles half "pop"
the lid on, straighten the fabric till it is not quite taunt and pop
it on all the way. shake the tub till quite a bit shows in the tub,
throw away the stuff on top that was too thick to go through, and do
it again until you have done it all. (now you know why they charge so
much.)this gets it very fine and i find i have very little problem
with clogs after mixing it. if i do end up with a problem, ususally
after letting it sit too long with out using it, i take the top off
and stir it up, and before putting the tip back on, take a staight
pin and clean out the tip. i keep straight pin handy just in case,
nothing worse then a clogged tip and a waiting client.
oh, i also strain anything that goes into it with a metal coffee
strainer. it is very fine and catches everything.
hope this helps, jennifer

: I have always had problems applying henna with a jaquard bottle
when i
: sift and mix the henna myself, i triple sift with a nylon stocking
and
: have tryed lots of recipes, it always clogs, spits and stops, it is
so
: frustrating that i can^t work with it. I can transfer the premixed
: paste from a Jani cone to a jaquard bottle and not have problems.
: Recently i tryed a sample of fresh henna, triple sifted from
the
: body arts co. in Ojai, and it works beautifully, no problem mixing
and
: it comes out of even a #5 tip beautifully, no problems with
clogging,
: it just flows. So what^s the problem? The price. It^s only
henna.
: Isn^t it? I have noticed through reading the forum and other pages
on
: the net, that a lot of you recommend and use Castle Arts henna
powder,
: the price is more reasonable than body arts. Also mehndi mud is
: recommended by many of you. My question is _ does it apply as
easily
: and smoothly without clogging like the body arts^ henna. They
: guaranty that it won^t clog, and it doesn^t by golly. I am happy
with
: the henna from body arts co. , it^s just that it^s 50 Canadian
dollars
: for 200 grams, i can buy 100 grams of henna in a box called ZARQUA
: and it looks sifted, for 3 can. dollars, but it clogs when i mix it.
: If i can^t find something else for a better price that works ,
: then i will use the body arts stuff because at least i can work
with
: it.
: In summary, i am looking for fresh, sifted henna that flows
nicely
: through a Jaquard bottle without clogging, and of course stains
nicely
: for a reasonable price, and are there any Canadian suppliers? That
: American dollar is tough on us Canadians.
