Even if the paper was really thick I can envision the paste soaking through and causing the image to bleed, and indefinitely to rot away. Henna on bare (natural, unprimed) canvas might work if the canvas is nice and thick and properly treated afterward with a matte medium to protect it. Use a paste made with just rainwater or rosewater and nothing heavily acidic as this WILL cause damage. I would let the painting sit for a week so everything gets either absorbed or evaporated before applying a finishing coat. I guess I should try this, I mean I've got all these art supplies at home, might as well use 'em, I've been so lazy lately!!
