The walnut will probably create several days of itching..... I don't
know about more. I talked with people who harvested black walnuts
around Brushwood, and those who had problems with walnuts had itchy
hands for days. They had great stains, (not patterned, just from
messing with the hulls) and there is literary verification that
gypsies used walnut in place of henna with henna was out of their
budget.


My great-grandmother used walnut hulls to dye her children's stockings
Mae Fisher, her daughter, complained that working with the dyebath
made her hands sore.
