What's wrong with green tea?

Most of my pastes are made with straight lemon juice, but when I
desire to put cloves, thyme, cardamom, and other things in I use
green tea as my medium. I know black tea is probably used more
often, in hopes of darkening the paste. Does anybody know if it
really make a difference which tea to use?
