: I was looking through the site and although the dangers of black
: henna are thoroughly covered, i was surprised that the uses of
clove
: and eucalyptus oils were mentioned without warning. both of these
: oils are SEMITOXIC! while they can be perfectly safe, much caution
: should be used with any essential oil. also, i didn't see any
mention
: of the more traditionally used mustard oil. mustard oil is intended
: for EXTERNAL USE ONLY. it is commonly used to pre-treat the skin
: before painting your design. a good mustard oil will be a golden
: yellow and smell like a strong mustard. it can be purchased at most
: indian grocery stores.

While there is much debate over the staining benefits and irritation
factor of clove, eucalyptus and other essential oils (which are most
commonly used *in* the paste), using mustard oil directly on the skin
would be worse. I will sometimes use eucalyptus in my paste and have
never had a reaction but when I used mustard oil (in the paste, not
directly on the skin) I got a horrible rash. I'm not allergic to
mustard but the oil sure did a number on my skin.

I'd be very careful using the mustard oil especially if you henna
other people.
