Glad to hear that you are having a real henna season. The party
sounds like fun even if your audience wasn't too appreciative. I
have had gigs like that and it can be a little disheartening to see
henna lumped in with balloon animals and face painting, but I figure
that it pays for other gigs that are more artistic and authentic.

As for throbbing hands, this will go away after you get used to
hennaing long hours. It's like any exercise after a long period of
downtime...the first few times leave you aching. Carrot bags would
certainly cure that. If you still want to use j-bottles try a little
massage technique that I learned from a client and physical
therapist. Basically the technique is to grasp the thumb (the one
you use to squeeze the j-bottle) in your other hand, like you are
milking a cow; squeeze it strongly while pulling on it slowly. What
you are doing is lengthening and stretching the muscles out. When
you are hennaing your muscles constrict and get stuck like that so
massaging them in this way allows them to relax and lengthen. You
could use a little arnica oil on your thumb while massaging it in
this way; it really helps.

As for the skin tenderness, that might be due to the clove oil. It
can be a little hard on the skin. I find that my skin gets somewhat
prune-like after being hennaed and wrapped up overnight; that
pruneyness mixed with a strong essential oil might be the cause of
your tenderness.
