Regardless of any visible effects, PPD does build up in your system. There's not much you can do now except stay healthy, drink lots of water, and help us real henna artists spread the word that henna doesn't "come in black" and that real, safe, traditional henna is beautiful! Tell your friends! I second the idea of going back to the "artist" and asking him for a list of ingredients. If he can give you a list (which I doubt) there's gotta be something else in there besides henna. Henna should be made with stuff you could eat (tea, lemon, clove, sugar, etc) - if it has any long words (or if it's black, green, purple, etc) it ain't henna. This "artist" might be open to learning about real henna, or he might not, or he might not even be there anymore, just a fly-by-night, jump-on-the-mehndi-bandwagon type. If you really want to help stop poison being put on peoples' skin, print out the "warnings" page and take it to whoever's responsible for vendors in the area where this was done to you. Most importantly, take care of yourself and help us spread the word about henna...and stick around to learn more about this ancient art! Anne Beltestad Gilded Lilies, Seattle WA : There are artists out there using ppd-free forms of dye that will : stain the skin the way henna does. This is not henna because henna : does not ever get black. : : The best way to tell if a "henna" dye has ppd is if it lasts for more : than a week and still looks really dark. : : If you can, go back to the artist and ask him for a list of the : ingredients of the stuff he uses. He should have that information on : hand if he's a respectable artist and business person. : : Last but not least, if you think you might have gotten way too much : than you bargained for, see a doctor.
