Yeah, sugar in your henna mix definitely makes it dry a little
slower, but I've found that it helps the henna stay on so much longer
with hardly any cracking or flaking away.

I use cane sugar syrup, a liquid byproduct of sugar processing. It's
important that the sugar you put into your mix be in a liquid form,
and the consistency of the cane syrup works wonderfully in henna
paste.

Also, something I've learned this past winter is don't limit yourself
to lemon juice only. I have three orange trees and one grapefruit
tree in my yard. My next door neighbor has a lemon tree and I used
up all her fruit this year, but the grapefruit out of my own yard
makes my henna nice and dark. And one grapefruit is all I need for
paste and "grapefruit-sugar" because they're so big. I still have
plenty of fruit on my grapefruit tree if anyone would like some, I'm
sure shipping could be arranged, you wouldn't have to pay me for the
fruit.

I guess what I'm trying to say here is that one should not be limited
to strictly lemons, especially not lemon concentrate, that stuff's
gross when there's fresh fruit available.

advocating back yard crops and farmers markets,
