work glovesPosted by jenaye on May 19, 2001 at 07:32:41: In reply to: Re: Heat is good posted by mehndi mama on May 15, 2001 at 20:59:49: Interestingly enough, when I get called into work, (industrial) Ihave to wear work gloves & if I've done henna the night before, I'll keep it toasty overnight by having it wrapped in cotton, toilet paper or paper towel & a sock over it, then I'll pick it off before I go to work and having it in work gloves all day (physical job, I sweat all day) really makes it dark. So yes, heat, even after it's been picked off seems to make a big difference. Some of you have seen my photo site with the dark henna that I get, the darkest is after I've had to work a couple of days. (The faboulous henna that I buy from Kenzi helps too!!!)Jen : Rice bags. They work great! Put about a half-pound of rice in a : sock, tie it off, zap it for a minute.....instant heat! : : I got the best take ever on my palm from keeping it hot with a rice : bag inside an oven-mitt for a few hours. : : : : : : It was the heat aspect i was thinking of more than anything. : : Warming : : : the said body part first.. would it help? : : : : Heat definitely helps, though this is as much after the henna has : : been applied as before. : : : : The classic story is of someone at Sirius Rising last year who had a : : CCJ pattern on each shoulder. She went off and danced round the : : bonfire with the henna still on, always going round the same way. : : Next morning, the colour on one arm was noticably darker than on the : : other. : : : : Failing access to a bonfire to dance round, holding the relevant : body : : part in steam will help. Care is needed here, obviously, as steam : : straight from a kettle can easily scald. However, by keeping a few : : feet from the spout it is possible to get heating without being : : burned. Saunas, hair driers and gas fires can also be used to good : : effect, but again, watch out for getting too hot, and err on the : side : : of caution. : : : : Even after the henna has been removed, heat will help the darkening : : process over the first day or two.
