Henna and black hair ...

I have black hair, and I mean extremely jet black (I'm Malay BTW :)).
My mama used to religiously apply henna on my then waist length hair
once every month for several years ('cos I had a bad case of premature
greying since I was 12 ... BLEAH!). I saw no significant or drastic
colour change on the black (see Kenzi's explanation on that) but I get
various shades of reds, browns and oranges on the grey hair. The black
hair shone with a beautiful red tint under the sun and after many many
applications, I could notice a tiniest hint of red on it. But my hair
colour did not change to red, just a luxurious black cherry shade.

Ohhh BTW, I used Jamila too ... and all the grey disappeared after all
that henna treatment. I don't henna my hair now, haven't been doing
that for a long time. I've highlighted my hair several times and I
don't want it to turn green (or some weird colour) so I'm gonna let
the highlights grow out before I start hennaing again. Ohhh, does
anyone has any success with Light Mountain (auburn) henna ? My
boyfriend used it to dye his beard (yes, like the Prophet :)) and hair
last night but didn't notice any difference. He has medium brown hair
with blonde streaks. Should he expect red ?
