Technically, slander is knowlingly *saying* falsehoods about someone. Libel is knowingly *writing* falsehoods about someone. (I know this from my wonderful Law and Libel class - the things you pick up while being a journalism major.) Both depend on *knowing* that what you are about to say/write is false, yet doing so anyway. For example, if I know for a fact that a vendor does not use PPD or some other dye in her product, yet I go around telling everyong she does, that's slander. If I put up a web site dedicated to letting everyone know that she does, that's libel. If I have tried out a vendor's henna and it doesn't work so well for me, that's my experience. If I talk about it, or write about it, that's not going to get me in trouble. Magazines like _Consumer Reports_ routinely (sp?) rate products and publish the results, favourable or otherwise. This is not libel; it's providing consumers with information which they can use when picking a product. Knowing which vendors and brands are good is great, but knowing which to avoid is perhaps a little better. I know I do not want to use a product which is presented to be something it isn't. Then again, when it comes to vendors and products, the bad experiences one person has may not be the same for the next person who orders from them; and henna does react differently on different people. Anne (who spells her name with that pesky silent 'e') : Hi Michelle - It's great that you've spent so much time testing things : out and I understand if you're uncomfortable slandering vendors but I : would love to know about other results you've found during your tests. : This is not slander, just your opinion, and the point of the forum and : when it works best is when people share their experiences and compare : them with others. There is no need to be vindictive or mean spirited : when you share this information,it's just an opinion and you're : entitled to one
