Re: FDA & hennaPosted by Matthew on June 7, 2001 at 04:56:21: In reply to: FDA & henna posted by jazibe on June 6, 2001 at 21:35:57: Wwhe that came out in 1997 I had a little trouble getting my hennapowder past customs in those days, but they were looking for labels that pointed to use on the skin, Henna is not FDA approved, but can be used legally as a cosmetic or cosmetic dye as we all know i, it in everything now days. I would like to find the 1965 report that the FDA put out when the instant suntain lotion that contained henna was banned, because of complaints by consumers, not heath complaints but cosmetic complaints (orange skin, black blotches, etc. This is what caused the Henna to be approved for hair only, but not for skin. We are completely safe as long as the ingredents are listed on the label and none of as the other ingredents are FDA no no's for the skin. A good PH balanced product that contains henna and is fresh, will not hurt anyone, this is why is is very important to be careful what is mixed into henna and what is used next to it, because of reactions. Years ago I tried Logwood dye a simple dye made of sawdust, That was a big mistake, talk about red burning bumbs for a week and that was only sawdust..
