Re: A poll questionPosted by Zimra on June 13, 2001 at 17:11:49: In reply to: A poll question posted by Kim on June 13, 2001 at 06:27:47: : I've had several people over the past few months see my designs and: tell me that it's evil (their word) and it's a sin to mark the body : in any way. Ouch! I know that some religious sects (strict Orthodox Jews, for example) believe it is a sin to permanently modify the body (except for that pesky foreskin I guess!). I didn't know the prohibition extended to henna! The argumentative female dog in me would ask said persons if they believed that wearing makeup or perfume were evil or a sin... I personally rank henna as a cosmetic akin to these. It's not permanent, and leaves the body in the same (or better) shape than it was previously! And is it sinful to wear clothes, or have bruises, or get a suntan, or have a leaky ink pen? These all "mark" the body in some way, imo. My inner nice person would express regret at the person's opinion, but point out that probably a good 90something percent of the world would beg to differ. Zimra
