My cat does the same kind of thing, except he's into "head-butting" my
hand as I'm working. This is also the cat that will climb onto a table
to smell flowers. My trick for getting rid of him, blow air into his
face. A couple of puffs will move him, no problem. If you blow into
cat's faces it tickles their nose and wiskers and they'll usually back
up. You could also leave a bottle or patch of henna on fabric for him
to sniff that's away from you.

On a happier note, cats make great henna warmers. Just wrap the body
part (usually feet) and place a sleepy cat on top. Lots of heat and
great stain.
