I was reading a scientific piece on hennotannic acid
(lawsone) yesterday, and it should NOT be extracted, concentrated and
used directly on skin!

In absolutely pure form it's toxic and should NOT be used directly on
skin (or taken by mouth, etc)! Hennotannic acid within the leaf paste
is at a low enough level to do a wonderful job on your skin and not
hurt anything.

and...anyway pure hennotannic acid is too reactive with the air and
all to be useful.

A moment of silence for several cages of Chinese hampsters and rabbits
that endured the ordeal of those experiments for the benefit of
cosmetic companiess keen to see if they could improve upon 9000 years
of henna traditions......
