It's known in Indian (at least one!) tradition as 'chunna' and I do
recall adding it into my mix once and it seemingly had no effect.
However, if you smear a bit on after you've scrapped off the henna it
can have a fantastic non-cumulative (I kept trying to do it again and
again, but alas...) effect that is immediate and definite. I always
got it to go to a dark brown colour, it never enhanced the red in
henna at least. A good test would be if to try leaving it on for a
bit to see if it encouraged more colour than just a smear on and off.
