In a tiny amount, down in the stomach, it is neutralized by the acid .. but people who habitually chew betel with kapur tend to have dental problems. Ever seen old tribal ladies who are addicted to betel? Big grins, no teeth. The problem arises when you have a fair amount left on your skin for a while .... same as ammonia. A little ammonia in sweat or urine isn't a disaster ... but babies get diaper rash if left wet, or grownups get heat rash.
