In Iran as you all know, also hair was hennaed-BUT not just the
women..als MEN did henna theire hair-
The henna was traditionally mixed with lime juice and rosewater-
sometimes some "surma" was added(to get a more brownish shade).
Then the henna had to sit for seven hours....
After this seven hours the hair was firs washed with ROSEWATER(I know-
pretty expensive, but I found out that the hair takes the henna better
if washed with rosewater before!)
Then the henna was smeared in the whole hair-then the hair was pieced
in 7 parts-each part was hennad again and then each of the seven
parts were again sliced into seven pieces and then this pieces were
henaned again and then they were braided...if the hair was long
enough,of course-then the braids were knot together.and more henna
was put on-then the henna was wrapped in saran and then a pretty nice
piece of silk or suchlike(with pearls on)was bind around the hair....
Then the henna was usually left on for seven hours......then the
henna was rinse off and the hair was again washed with rosewater and
eggs.....
For a Bride, the hair was hennaed seven days,,,,,everyday the hair was
hennaed again,again and again.the end-result was a real red!
Then, just kings(mens) were allowed to henna the beard.-----
