I work for a tertiary school as a publicity/PR person. I organise and
am involved in all publicity events, emcee for functions, meet the
press, be at all publicity/PR related functions (get the picture?). I
need to be well-dressed and well-groomed (all hoity toity, if you ask
me). It's a lovely and fun job and I love it even though I am known
to stray from protocol and dress weird most of the times :). I
refrained from wearing henna on my hands till after 3 months in the
job. My boss was quite curious about it initially but now he's just
used to it. He did ask me not to have any on my hands if I have to
meet VIPs or be an emcee for important functions. Otherwise he won't
bug me even if I do elaborate bridal mehndi on both hands. We sort of
have this mutual agreement and both are comfortable with it. But I
can sense that he doesn't care too much about it (which is fine with
me as long as he doesn't stop me from wearing it at all).

My Director on the other hand has been more curious and asked
questions about it. It always start with "What's wrong with your
hands?". I don't mind explaining it to him over and over (so far he
has asked that twice). I guess his attitude is similar ... as long as
it doesn't stop you from doing your work, it's fine.

Because I'm in Asia, people are more used to henna and has seen
mehndi done one time or another. Most would appreciate it admiringly,
wondering where I find the time and patience to do such things
*chuckles*. Others think it's cool and hip and wondered if I'd do it
for free (haha).

My sweetie Adam, thought I did some morbid art on my hand, using
sharp razors and blood as medium, when he first saw it but now he's a
big fan of henna (even telling me how to henna my hair 'cos he has
done it twice already).

Love & peace,

~Jewel~
