misinformation that no one will stumble across

Hej,

One of my old roommates was very into tacky things (fashion-wise, not
tactile-wise) and would delight in what was (for us) old books about
human nature. One of the books she had (that got left behind when
she moved out) is Girls & Sex by Wardell B. Pomeroy, Ph.d. (author of
Boys & Sex, so the cover reads). It was published in 1969 and is
fraught with misinformation about a lot of things (and some of those
things are very offensive). In one of the first chapters he points
out how adults have always disproved of what kids do and as an
example, he writes (with no documentation to back things up):

". . . A papyrus of 1700 B.C. is a lament by the elders in an
Egyptian city about the young people of the community, who, in the
language of our later day, also appear to be going to the dogs . . .
They are annoyed becuase the young boys are driving their chariots
recklessly over the countryside without regard for life or limb.
They are horrified that young girls are shamelessly painting their
lips with henna. Doesn't all that sound familiar?"

I don't know about anyone else, but I'd be horrified if any young
girls I knew painted their lips with henna. ;-)

Then again, I really don't think anyone other than my old roommate
and is going to stumble over this book. (And if anyone did, the
writing is so bad she wouldn't be able to finish it.)

Such is it in CT.

Anne, who's kinda at a henna lull right now, but hopes to be back in
the swing of things next month
