Re: culturePosted by txilar on July 3, 2001 at 22:21:16: In reply to: culture posted by talya on July 3, 2001 at 20:35:36: Although I can see others have answered this as well, I'll throw inmy pennies anyway, because I too am a world citizen and henna is also a part of my culture. Henna is not a pillar of Islam. In fact, the ancient Egyptians are known to have used henna for all kinds of things, and they weren't Muslim. Many people wearing henna are indeed Muslim and many are Hindu, many are Jewish, many are Christian, many are 'other' (heh heh, no disrespect anyone, I'm being playful!) and some are not religious at all, because the use of henna isn't necessarily a religious expression. I wear henna to celebrate joyous occasions, not to look cool. Lastly, no one is 'taking' your culture unless you let them. Share your culture with those around you. Aren't you proud of it? If you don't share, how ever is anyone to learn?? Henna and Islam are both beautiful and meant to be shared. That's two cents to my soapbox account please! salaam. : It makes me mad to see people taking my culture. How many of the : people wearing henna are Islamic? We don't put it on to look cool or : to have a temporary tattoo. We put it on to celebrate weddings and : joyous occasions. I don't even think you are using real henna.
