Tips for henna-ing one's own feet, please

Hello, does anyone have any tips or suggestions for henna-ing your
own feet? I tried a design today for the first time and it has turned
out well, but I just did a vine thing down the inside edge of my leg
to my big toe because I couldn't reach the top outer edge of my foot
properly. Are there any tricks to this or do I just need to develop
some flexibility? I've only been doing this for a couple of months
and I tend to need to be quite close up to my skin to work. With
practice does one get better at doing designs from farther away?
