: Hi everyone! I would like to share my experience with dyeing my
: fiance's hair with henna last Sunday, and also ask a few questions.
:
: Firstly, my recipe:
:
: henna powder
: lemon juice
: strongly brewed "Boh" tea
: a teaspoon of rosemary EO
:
: Notice that there are no amounts given. I just did it by "feel"
: (you'll hear the result of that soon...haha). I let the mixture sit
: overnight and in the morning, I cut my fiance's hair and then began
: the dyeing process. I know that Catherine says on her webpage that
: the henna mixture should be about the consistency of yoghurt, but I
: must eat thicker yoghurt than everyone else, because the first
: spoonful felt like glue as I tried to comb it through my fiance's
: hair!!
:
: I thought that my mistake was not sifting the powder beforehand
: (although is there a need to?) and soon abandoned the comb because
it
: was just getting all the gunk out of his hair. It was a mess. I had
: to manually add lemon juice to his hair and henna was just getting
: everywhere. Finally I abandoned the plastic gloves I was wearing and
: used my bare hands to work the henna into his hair and scalp...and
: finally I rolled his hair up with saran wrap and wiped off the henna
: that had glopped onto his ears, neck, and forehead.
:
: He complained that the part of his scalp where I had just shaved
(the
: back hairline) stung. Point to note: Don't henna when you've just
: shaved your hair.
:
: My palms are now a bright orange from the henna dye, and the skin
: seems dry. I thought henna was supposed to be conditioning? But
: definitely noticed a dryness.
:
: Anyway, finally, the hair dyeing actually turned out pretty well -
: there's a nice golden sheen to my fiance's hair, and where there
were
: white hairs they are now golden brown. Beautiful.
:
: Would love to hear some of the experiences of other people on this
: list and also some tips on what to do next time!!
:

I am a 42 year old redhead, which means my hair is not so red anymore.
Six months ago I started to henna it. Every 6 weeks I pick up my box
of Hennalucent (Sunset Glow shade), Boil acouple of cups of water, mix
till a kinda gloopy paste, and my husband works it into my scalp and
hair while wearing plastic gloves. I leave it on for 20 minutes or so
and take a long shower(I have waist long hair). My hair looks like it
did 25 years ago and is so shiny it hurts to look at in the sun.

Hennalucent is natual henna and the same results should come from
henna powder.

I also got a beautiful brown stain from it that lasted for more than
two weeks when I used it to practice mehndi( thinking it would only
last a few days).
