Jackpot! Found a henna tree!Posted by Angela on July 10, 2001 at 11:23:15: I just wanted to share my news 'cause I'm excited about it! Whilediscussing my new henna fascination with my husband's boss at a recent social event, he mentioned that his landlord had told him that one of the trees in front of his house was henna. He told me I could come over and collect some leaves to try, so last night I went. He pointed to a two-story high tree with white peeling bark and long, thin leaves and I thought, uh, no, don't think so. But luckily, I noticed that right beside that tree was a 10-12 foot woody, shrubby plant that looked an awful lot like the henna plants I bought (which I thought were duds). So, I collected leaves from that plant, mushed a few up with some lemon juice and let them sit overnight. I stuck some of the mush on my finger this morning and voila! After only 5 minutes (I had to go to work) I had a nice bright orange stain! I think he may even have two of the plants in his yard, so he's going to see a lot of me! Right now I've got the leaves drying and I'll try making my own fresh paste when they're ready. I can't wait to try! I think I'll try my own henna plant leaves again, too - I think maybe I didn't let the mush sit long enough for the dye to release the first time. Just wanted to share:) - Angela
