How to make it last the longest?

Hello. I am about to go and get my first Henna design. Could
someone please explain to me what I have to do in order to make it
last the longest? As it is summer here, are there any precautions I
should take concerning sun damage? Also, I understand that I should
apply vaseline (or the like) before I go in a swimming pool,
correct? What else should I know?
